Flying at more than the speed of sound and that too on a regular airline flight? Unbelievable as it may sound, from the mid 1970s, for more than 25 years, this was very much possible. Two airliners were capable of this feat. Aeroflot operated scheduled flights in the 1970s using the Tu-144. However, it was arch rival, the Anglo-French “Concorde” which enabled British Airways and Air France to operate Supersonic scheduled passenger flights for more than 25 years. This presentation takes you back to the days of Supersonic Transport (SST). The attractions of the Concorde and the reasons why it was a commercial failure are also dwelt upon as are details of the only Concorde accident. The possibility of SSTs coming back is also discussed.
