Written by Paul and Sosthenes, this is a letter written after a long visit to them. It starts with Paul's relief and joy in the effects of a previously written severe letter to them. He was happy to learn that the members of the church are back in loyalty to their spiritual father. He also encourages them to be cheerful givers and to prove all his boasting regarding them to be true. He presses on the need for helping the poor and helping others from their abundance. The first letter to this church displayed a more disciplinarian side of Paul, their father. The second letter displays a loving and proud father in Paul. Key verse from 2 Corinthians: (3:5) Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.
