Timothy is Paul's co-worker and son in Christ. We see Timothy in the Scriptures as a shadow of Paul; he accompanied him in his travels and even co-wrote some of the epistles. Paul's fatherly affection for this young man is evident in all the advice he gives to this 'true son in faith' who is presently far away from his spiritual father. This book is filled with church leadership guidance; a manual on how the church is to be organised. Paul does refer to Timothy's individual ministry but he mostly addresses the functioning of the church and it's primary ministries. Paul gives Timothy, now a church pastor, on how the order should be maintained inside the church. Key verse from the book of first Timothy: (6:12) Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
